 In the beggining

          Where i am now

My name is Andy Carvalhais, or better known as
"Mr. C". I was born and raised in New Jersey. My parents migrated from Brazil over a half of a century ago. I grew up speaking English and Portuguese, however I am also fluent in
Spanish . My family and I spent most of our years in Kenilworth, NJ where I graduated from High School in 1993. In 1993 I attended Parson School Of Design in New York City and then graduated from DuCret School Of Art & Design in 1997.

I stumbled onto the Construction industry as a means of paying for college tuition. I was fortunate to be taught by a very knowledgeable industry professional who was willing to take employ as an apprentice. This experience would forever change my path in life by establishing a new found respect and understanding for a unique industry that would also lend itself well to my interest in Design and Creativity.

This would eventually lead to a great passion for the construction Industry which motivated me to take a leap of faith and establish my own construction business at a young age in 2003.

THE ROAD TO SUCCESS IS ALWAYS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
                                              - Lily Tomlin

I have been in business for the last 23 years and currently the owner and operator of X.G.C. Innovations LLC, which I named after my son Xzavier Genesco Carvalhais. In 2019, I began a new chapter of my career and life which would allow me to devote more time for my son and family. Teaching became an opportunity for me to slow down and focus on family while also helping contribute to an industry which is in dire need of new generations of highly skilled professionals.

Within 2024 and 2025, 75% of construction industry professionals will become of age and begin retiring. This will create unimaginable opportunities for the youth of today, in an industry which is forever growing, evolving and extremely lucrative. What better way to contribute to this cause, than to share my knowledge and teach the future generations of industry professionals.

Mr.c's mission statement & philosophy of teaching

My inspiration for CHOOSING to pursue a career as a teacher and educator has been fueled by all the wonderful, talented, skilled, selfless individuals which have taken the time to share their wealth of knowledge with me throughout the various stages of my life. These individuals recognized my potential, believed in me and wished nothing but success for me. They may not have carried the official title of a “ TEACHER“ , or may not have had a degree or certificate in teaching, but were certainly some of the most skilled individuals in the trades or careers they worked in. Their instruction, patience, guidance, knowledge and dedication in contributing to my success is exactly what has helped mold and shape me along with laying the foundation for everything that I have become and accomplished today. In my eyes they will always be considered my “ TEACHERS “ and “ MENTORS “.

My mission as a teacher is one that consists of many ideas, strategies, goals and most importantly continued growth. This mission is for one sole purpose only… “ To Change Lives “. Yes, to change the lives of every student which becomes a part of my classroom and shop. Education and knowledge are both such precious gifts which can determine a student’s path in life, future and chances for success. I am a single father of a eight-year old son and I want nothing short of the best for him with a secure future, an abundance of knowledge, a good education and success. This principle, passion and dedication which lies within me is what I will apply to my classroom and for my students. As my teachers and mentors once shared their wealth of knowledge with me for a greater purpose, I will pay it forward to my students. If I can change a students life by simply being a positive reinforcement, sparking inspiration, enhancing one’s creativity, helping a student believe in his or herself, and of course sharing knowledge that can make a student employable and obtain a successful future I will have fulfilled my mission. I believe in creating a bond with the students which consists of trust and understanding. I want my students to know that our classroom is a safe zone, one without prejudice, judgement, a place where mistakes might be encountered but can be worked through and learned from. A place where learning and education is not intimidating or a struggle be inviting and enjoyable. Along with all those attributes I also want to implement the importance of demeanor, respect, character and values. These are all essential in the growth and development of any individual of any age.

In choosing to be a teacher and educator I completely understand and accept my responsibility to my district, school and every single student. Being an efficient, effective and successful teacher is way beyond just knowing the information or subjects you are teaching. It is also about creating a well managed and balanced classroom / shop with proper instruction and lessons. In order to establish this, the implementation of differentiated instructions and lessons are essential. I understand that every student has a different learning capability and is at a different educational level, he or she may also be special needs and have learning disabilities. With this being said, every single student at every level is entitled to have an equal and ample opportunity to benefit from good instruction and a good education in order to secure a successful future. A teacher MUST be properly educated and prepared for the task at hand.

Much like a student who learns , grows and develops every year at every grade or level...I myself as a teacher and educator will continue to learn, grow and develop throughout my career. In order to fulfill my personal goal of becoming an efficient, effective, and successful good teacher, I must continue to enlarge, enhance, evolve and refine my knowledge of education to ensure I perform at my best in my classroom and that every student benefit to the fullest from my instruction.

I believe a teacher’s work, education and learning will never be complete. Throughout my career there will always be more education to attain, personal and professional growth.
